Islamic University….help?

environment canada issues : Asalaamu alaikum wr wb everyone : )

I really would like to go to an Islamic university. I live in America (the south) and we only have one Islamic University, and that is Zaytuna. I’m not sure how many of you live in America or have checked out Zaytuna, but it is very expensive.

I am just finishing my first semester at a university in my state. I am looking for Islamic Universities in Canada, or the UK or any Islamic countries. I would really prefer Canada though. I would like a university that if I have a degree from it, it will also be accepted here in the U.S. (preferably) If that doesn’t work, I guess it’s ok, I just want to get out and get into an Islamic environment.
I would also like if the school provides scholarships and doesn’t cost a lot. I have no money and no job or anything. Just a young (18) Muslimah convert trying to get something more out of this Dunya.
Honestly, it doesn’t have to be a University. If it is in Canada, or somewhere really close to the U.S., It can simply be some type of boarding school, or Islamic school. But, remember, i’m 18 and considered an adult. So, I have no clue what schools I can go to.
Any information for me would be really great.
Thanks everyone!
Also if you know of anything in the U.S. for 18 or older, I would love that too! I just want to be in an Islamic environment, learning the Deen and free to practice.
Thank you again guys!

Btw, I may post this question a few times on here over the next few days/weeks or on some other sites, so if you see this qestion a lot, its me trying to get answers. lol XD

asalaamu alaikum wr wb!
@Pat Ocasey————-I do not have a job because I am not being hired and everywhere I have put in an application is not looking for more workers, they want to get rid of some workers. We have a bad economy at the moment. Also, I do not have a car, The only way I can get around is by my mum, who works—-a lot. Please do not express to me how easy it is to do this or that, I know how easy it is for SOME people. Thank you.

@Ali———-Yes brother there is such a thing, I won’t go into detail as to why I am NOT in an Islamic environment living in my house.
@*ajidamoon* the Eh team—————– Thank you for your answer, and I am very very aware of the cost of that which you mentioned. I probably should have mentioned that in my question? I asked in my question for Islamic universities OR boarding school type things. I know their are boarding “schools” that are really just big houses run by a few sisters and brothers, and are usually quite low cost. I don’t know what any of those are called and thus asking for some ideas.
@@*ajidamoon* the Eh team———————My plan was to talk to my friends that went to those boarding schools and ask them how they got their visa. I know for the U.S. we have travel Visas and things like that. She went for quite a while the school, which was basically a house, so I was going to ask her if she can talk to her mum about it.
@Green Lantern—————You my dear, are in need of a great bit of education.
@@@*ajidamoon* the Eh team——————Well that just sucks! I guess Canada is off the list! I don’t see why
American doesn’t have the stuff Canada does as far Islamic resources go. Errrrg.
@@@@*ajidamoon* the Eh team———————— I have checked, but money is an issue. And that probably doesn’t make sense that i’m even asking this question with no money….but yeh….Insha’allah I guess i’ll find something.
About Zaytuna:::::::: I know it doesn’t have accreditation and that is definitely a concern. I was sooooooo excited when they started accepting new students but then their site said they are working on accreditation and that won’t do. If they had accreditation, it is likely I would have financial assistance…..buttttt blah.

Islamic Online University:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Thank you for that too, but I kinda know about that. It’s really lovely, especially their new programme for bachelor of arts in Islamic studies. But, because of where I live it will be a bit more for me. I would also like something where I can go on campus. I would like to not be in the…..situation….i’m in now and if I am going to leave, I would be most appreciated if I could be in or near a better (more Islamic) environment.
I know it seems like i’m asking a lot for someone in such an awful financial situation lol, but for me a “better environment” would just be living somewhere with a Masjid in walking distance and a college near by. Then I wouldn’t mind going to a regular college, because I can attend classes at the Masjid regularly too. But, the way things are going for me now won’t work. So, while my request sound silly and not thought through, I have thought through them and I know there is something out there, I know it….just gotta find it.

The answer about: Islamic University….help?

Answer by Ali
There is no such a thing as an islamic environment. We all should live in a Society that gives every person a space to express themselves. The Koran says that we were made different people to know each other, not be closed from each other.

If you think a school in the US is expensive, then one in Canada will be double at least. As you are not a Canadian, you must apply to the government for a student visa and pay International tuition prices. You would also not be eligible for any grants, scholarships or funding, like native Canadians.

Even though religious schools get private funding from special interest groups, under Canadian law they are still government regulated and have to follow the same rules as regular universities.

So, if you would like to attend school here, you must first apply to said school, then apply to the government for a student visa, with proof that you can pay your tuition, for your housing, and for your necessities while here, as you are not allowed to work. Its a complicated, costly and lengthily process…..not the same as transferring to another uni in the same country.

Here is the website with the info: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.asp

*there are only two actual “Islamic” universities here as well……and then several regular universities that offer Islamic studies. Plus, under Canadian law, the Islamic ones cannot stop non-Muslims from going there. So no matter what, i doubt you will find the Islamic atmosphere you seek.

*Boarding schools of the like you mentioned do not qualify under a study visa. They are not regulated and are not required to teach anything educational……..The only way you would be able to get into Canada is under a study visa, and a boarding school won’t cut it. It must be a government regulated institute, with federally recognized educators employed there.

If you are an American, you can come here as a tourist for up to six months, but you must prove that you have the money to sustain yourself while here, cannot work and cannot access health care or education. You would be in violation of being here as a tourist. If you are caught doing any of the above, you would be deported, and red flagged against ever entering Canada again. We have really tightened up our immigration laws in the past few years. There are only a few ways for you to be here legally…..study visa, work visa, and tourist visa(if you are from a country not on our visa waiver list). We welcome you, if you come here legally….if you don’t, expect that someone will turn you in.

* Are you sure they don’t? I only know of the one Islamic uni in my Province, as I have a friend who goes there. And my brother works customs, so I am familiar with the laws surrounding visas. i had to run a search though to see the laws surrounding how the schools are allowed to operate. Perhaps you could do the same…..Does the US not have a regulatory board for all universities? One where you could check their website, for uni’s that offer Islamic study? Seeing as the US has a larger population and more Muslims, it would make sense they have Uni’s that offer it. Good luck.
