Do you think that the America Public Education system is broke by designed?

discovery education issues : I was thinking about this for quite a bit and I was wondering how come the richest country in the world is 18 in overall education? We have enough money to fix the schools but just throwing money at the problem is not going to solve it. I think there needs to be a new overhaul of how it’s set up. Besides learning the basics reading, writing, and math, there’s need to be science add to that mix since many factors that regard the human, environment, the world that surrounds science I feel we should teach not only what communism socialism, marxism and other idealist is but have a full on discussion of how each one works (honestly) who are the best examples of them and would it work into this society. I would incorporate that with philosophy in the 6th grade and not only question but think would this logically work in the real world. So that way your have create not only bright student academically but also critical thinkers who can be more innovative and continue to challenge and make new discoveries in the world. Because right now I see the opposite.

I see kids put into this system and the system is designed for everyone to think not only a certain way but the same way. I think its more of an indoctrination to obey authority and teach not to question authority no matter how wrong he and/or she is. They are giving out homework and get a grade just on memory of remembering the steps and if you can’t remember the steps or can’t learn in a certain way you are deemed slow and need remedial classes. Then in regards to history it seems to have either a liberal or conservative swing to it. They don’t tell the whole truth especially regarding slavery Malcolm X, MLK, JFK, etc) because I feel when you tell the truth of what happened, why it happened, and not only understand it but the solution in a discussion. Because the result would be better understanding, perspectives, and history on both sides(in regards to black and white people) and it would be better off instead of repression alternative thoughts, letting it out, and leading into political correctness.Because political correctness just causes you to repress what you want to say and it destroys society and the person in the long run because that anger is not going anywhere its just going to bottle up and destroy other aspects of your life and you still going to have a shallow view of that person and/or race espicially if you get your source from the mainstream media. Lastly I feel that you can’t put this on one person is to blame. There’s a lot of blame to go around such as unions: who let incompetent teachers continue to teach because of their tenure. Parents who don’t teach their children morals and civil value and let the school not only decide their education but do their parenting. The government who continues to put education on the back burnerer when in fact they need educated kids for the future. And last but not least us as a people for continuing to be passively angry about this and not doing anything about it. If the government wanted to indoctrinateed students then I guess they’re getting their money‘s worth because that’s the only reason I see why the education system hasn’t been fixed in 20 years.

absolutely ! the progressive elites started all this around 1913,public school ed was dumbed down to make control of the population easier.now ,almost 100 years later we are turning out functional morons.great example is the election of 2008.

Throwing money at a problem rarely fixes it. It does attract the charlatans who want on the gravy train though. The Teachers Unions love throwing money at education. Until the federal government gets out of our education system it will continue to be broke. I have been watching our educational system that was the envy of the world, slowing dying. The more Federal money that is thrown at it, the faster the decline.

It is over-regulated by the Federal Government & yes, it’s being dilluted by “Political Correctness”.

The Federal Government should get the he!! out & let the States deal with it. The States can do a better job.
