Ask: Studying abroad in Canada a good choice?
environment canada issues : I was wondering whether I should study at Canada as an exchange student. Can anyone list some pros or cons about Canada? In general such as the gov., the schools, environment, the people there, weird laws if any.
Basically what I should expect if I go study in Canada.

if you mean just for a year or something like that then it’s great. Canada is a wonderful nation, warm and friendly people. Remember though that in the u.s. it’s easier to get a job with an american education.

In order to become a International student , in Canada, you must first apply and be accepted by a Canadian University.
Once you have a letter of acceptance in your han, from the University, then you must apply to the Government of Canada, for a student visa.
You will have to be able to show that you have the cash money needed to pay for your costs of attending University, PLUS the cash needed to support yourself in Canada, while you are a student here. If you cannot prove your ability to pay for your expenses , you won’t get a student visa.
Here is a link to the Government of Canada information website about getting a student visa.
READ it carefully.

As a student visa holder you can’t work in Canada, as your full time job will be to graduate from your course. A student visa is usually for one or two years, then you have to leave Canada, and go back to your own country.

I am Canadian and met my American husband while he was studying in Canada for a year. Needless to say, I hope he thought it was a good choice
lol
But as the previous post said, it is a pretty difficult and tedious process. You need a sponsor in the form of a rich relative pretty much (someone who can prove they have about ,000 to support you in case something happens, so you won’t be a burden on the Canadian economy).
School itself will be way more expensive since you are an international student (about 00 a course), not to mention cost of living and mandatory meal plans if you are a first-year living on campus.
You can apply for bursaries (even being an international student) that are based on financial need and help somewhat. My husband received about 00 for one semester.
I don’t remember exactly, but I believe after 6 months of studying in Canada he was legally able to work, provided he was still enrolled in school full time (at least 9 credits worth of courses). I believe there are also programs that allow you to work on campus before that.
If money is not much of an issue, I would say go for it. There are many great and well recognized schools across Canada, with some research you can find one best suited to your interests. Depending on where you end up the climate is mild (west coast) to fairly cold in the winter (middle-east), the land is beautiful, the people are pretty awesome.
